My name is Marissa Torelli, I am a senior at Watkinson School, and a student in the Global Studies Diploma Program. The reason why I joined Global Studies, and why I feel as if it is a perfect fit for me, is because the main themes that Global Studies focuses on are ones that I am passionate about. For globalization, I love to travel. I am fascinated by others cultures and take any chance I can to experience cultures different to my own. For the arts, theatre and singing were two of my passions from a very young age and without a doubt I believe have a place in a history-esque class. For technology and communication, I feel as if we are at the zenith of a technological revolution and that it plays a pertinent role in our everyday lives. And finally, one that might be the most important to me, is human rights. To me, a subsection of human rights is social justice. Activism and fighting for social justice are two things that I feel define me as a person. These few themes, out of the many, and how they are all interconnect, are what I feel represent who I am and what I believe in which made me have not a single second thought about becoming a part of this program.
